Artist Statement & Biography

As a contemporary painter based in Zürich, Switzerland, my artistic practice moves between the intimate depth of portraiture and a reflection on humanity and the environmental dynamics of our time.

The Philosophy: Time and Heritage

​

What was given to us, what do we make of it today, and what do we pass on?  These questions form the core of my artistic philosophy. In a culture driven by immediate novelty and the digital, my dedication to a complex, slow craft is a conscious act of resistance. By applying Old Master techniques, I draw upon a rich artistic heritage to raise questions about our shared history, our vulnerability, and our connection to a rapidly changing world. It is a commitment to an excellence that anchors contemporary artwork within an enduring continuum.

The Craft: From Panel to Paint

​

My portrait journey began in childhood, spent drawing family members from old photo albums. Following this passion, I graduated as a painting major from the University of Delaware, where I honed my technical skills reproducing historical portraits through their acclaimed art conservation program.

Today, this training informs my entire process. My work is deeply tactile and archival: I hand-build and prepare the wood panels myself before applying paint through a complex layering process. This meticulous method allows me to capture my subjects with a distinct sensitivity and luminosity, looking beyond mere representation to investigate the inner essence and complex humanity behind the gaze.

The Narrative: Nature and Identity

​

I examine these conceptual intersections through distinct bodies of work, notably Children of Nature and my Heritage Portraits. Here, I explore natural spaces, ancestral lineages, and the ever-evolving tapestry of our cultural heritage.

Rather than treating heritage as a static relic, my portrait work celebrates cultural garments as a living narrative. In parallel, series like Children of Nature address our relationship to the natural world as a vehicle for awareness, highlighting our duty to preserve these spaces while exploring how immersion in nature alters our relationships with one another.

Ultimately, my work is an invitation to slow down, look beneath the surface, and ignite memories of our own personal stories. By pausing at the crossroads of past and future, I invite viewers to reflect on our role within the world and consciously choose what we carry forward into tomorrow.

Beyond the Studio

​

I currently reside in the canton of Zürich with my small and energetic family, including my husband, two children, and our dog. I specialize in commissioned portraits, welcoming client collaborations in both English and German.​​​
